January, 2005 Teknuvations has commercialized its natural egg dye system and is selling it as a kit for Easter 2005. The kit allows families and children to naturally dye eggs, while avoiding many of the problems of previous natural dyeing methods. The dyes are in powder form and highly concentrated to dye dozens of eggs. Click here for more information. December, 2004 Teknuvations continued production of Doc Hinkle's Easter Egg Dye. Color matching and color conversion R&D and implementation were performed for the dye. Additional investigation and testing of the lead and cadmium content of Chinese-made porcelain enamel coatings was performed. October/November, 2004 Teknuvations celebrates two years in business! Teknuvations performed investigation and testing of the lead and cadmium content of Chinese-made porcelain enamel coatings. Along with standard FDA and ASTM procedures, a custom experimental setup was designed to perform specific risk-based testing. Testing was performed to support the development of new products. September, 2004 Teknuvations received the contract to produce eight (8) batches of Doc Hinkle's Easter Egg dye. After being successfully marketed last Easter, increased sales for Easter 2005 are expected. August, 2004
The powdered dyes are mixed with warm water in a small bowl or other container. Hard-boiled eggs and a small amount of white vinegar are placed into the dye bath. The dye bath is refrigerated and the eggs are checked periodically until the desired hue is achieved. Light pastel color can be achieved in as little as a few minutes of dying, while deep rich color are produced an hour or more. Dyed eggs are completely edible and food safe. They have not been exposed to room temperature and have not been over cooked and boiled in a dye bath for extended periods. Most importantly, the dye is fun and safe for children. The dying process involves no boiling water, no harsh chemicals, and no artificial colors! With the three colors, a variety of shades and hues can be produced. To make light green, eggs are dipped in yellow followed by blue. For more information (and photos) on the Teknuvations natural dye system click here. April, 2004 Teknuvations begins research on a new Easter egg dye using all natural colors.
